Always Wash Cold
Hot water is the enemy of cotton clothing. It causes shrinkage, fading, and weakens the fibres over time. Always wash on a cold or cool cycle, 30 degrees maximum. This is especially important for hand-embroidered and lace-detailed pieces.
Use a Gentle Detergent
Harsh detergents and fabric softeners can damage cotton fibres and fade colours. Use a mild pH-neutral detergent designed for delicate fabrics or baby clothing. In India, brands like Genteel or a small amount of Ezee work well.
Wash Inside Out
Turning garments inside out before washing protects the outer surface. This is especially important for embroidered details, printed fabrics, and lace trim. It prevents pilling and keeps colours looking fresh.
Never Wring - Always Lay Flat to Dry
Wringing cotton garments distorts their shape. Instead, gently squeeze out excess water and lay flat on a clean towel to dry. Avoid direct harsh sunlight for coloured pieces as UV exposure can fade fabric over time.
Dealing with Stains
Act fast. The sooner you treat a stain, the better. Gently dab with cold water and a small amount of mild soap. For food stains, a paste of baking soda and water works well. Never use bleach on coloured or embroidered pieces.
